Vintage Ann Green silk and sequin top debuts at the Museum of Nature and Science’s star-gazing night. I loved this top and immediately categorized it as a “mermaid” top, but decided it looks “galaxy” too. Worn with wardrobe staples: Banana Republic coated black denim jeans, and my favorite black flats from Argentina years ago.

Thailand

Just returned from a wonderful two week trip to Thailand with my mom. The full photo album is up on my Instagram, but here are some highlights. Traveling is challenging wardrobe-wise, since you’re forced to pack few items and see what happens with “outfits” when you get there. I loved the trip. We went to Ko Phi Phi, Chiang Mai, and Bangkok. Here are a few things I wore.

Vintage Modus Vivendi shirt (made in Greece) I found thrifting in Denver. Blenders eyewear polarized glasses are great for traveling since they’re lightweight and not too expensive so I’m never too stressed out about taking great care of them.

Purchased this fun unicorn shirt at Chatuchak market in Bangkok. I was impressed by how many local small designers were represented. Bought this Thai Hmong style skirt at a street stall near Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai. Railcar tote bag is perfect for traveling. GiBlack abarcas are still my favorite warm weather shoe; I traveled with both the black and the taupe this trip.

Chaco shoes are really great for travel and beaches. They have good traction and cloth straps. I’ve had these black flip flops for years and they’re holding up!  Baggu’s duck bag in canvas is a trusty travel partner too. Loving wearing a crochet/lace look dress (a gift from my aunt) and no-brand muumuu dress that I ripped into a cardigan mid-boat trip for added function (originally from a thrift store in Denver).

Brixton hat (a sample I bought from a rep- not sure if this style was produced or where sold). Midori Bikinis Mau Loa top, Tyler Rose bikini bottom I found on eBay last summer. I love swimsuits and prefer suits from smaller companies who specialize in swimwear- the quality difference is clear. These two companies use great thick and elastic fabric, have modern and flattering cuts, and wear really well.

Midori Bikinis Whale Tale bottoms and Tyler Rose Swimwear top. Mom’s in a cute maillot from Garnet Hill.

Derek Lam Design International dress from Kohl’s. It’s a lightweight cotton, long sleeved dress and is the perfect beach travel piece.

Gap denim jacket, thrifted vintage silk shirt, 50 Dresses infinity cowl scarf, vintage Aerosoles boots, and the comfiest Ann Taylor purple pants. Even when traveling in warm places, I think it’s important to dress properly for air travel- no flip flops on the plane!

Thrifted white dress from H&M in front of the most beautiful vista of Ko Phi Phi.

50 Dresses siren dress layered over a grey tank, GiBlack abarcas, a scarf from my aunt.

Till next time, Thailand!

Found these awesome Taos shoes on a super sale the other day when I was walking by a random “healthy foot” store. They are incredibly comfortable and perfect for teaching. Random European stockings, vintage Louis Feraud skirt, Ralph Lauren shirt, Banana Republic sweater, Tres Noir Ultra Lux sunglasses. Favorite parts of this outfit: how the stripes show through the sleeves of the sweater, and how the shirt has a white collar.

Favorite Brixton hat from last year, Woolrich flannel layered over a long black sweater (with a hood!), Banana Republic waxed jeans, vintage Aerosoles booties. Layers are the key to staying warm in my cold studio during the long winter.

School style

I’m really loving this new thrifted vintage camel coat (no label)! I’m wearing it sort of “school style” today with vintage thrifted Aerosoles boots, cropped Banana Republic pants, thrifted Ann Taylor cashmere sweater and a white button-up. It’s hard to find coats with great tailoring to fit a tiny 5’3”-ish frame, and this one fits the bill. Mom, don’t you love this? I think my mom will be impressed.

New Kicks

20131225-074132.jpgSo excited I found these vintage Nike hi-tops at the thrift store, along with this (made in the UK) brand new wool hat! Comfy Ann Taylor jeans, and my sister’s Nikita vest, and I am ready for last minute Christmas Eve errands.

Today’s the coldest, snowiest day this season, so I’m refusing to be photographed. Pablo’s wearing a hand-knit argyle sweater from a store in LA a few years back. He actually shivers when he’s not wearing it in the cold! (Might be for effect, but I’m a sucker.) Stay warm, Denver!
